VISTA, Calif.-- April 3, 2012--Global Health Trax, Inc. has always promoted healthy lifestyles. Now, a scientific study suggests GHT’s newest product, Plant Based Vitamin D3, may also help prolong lives.

Global Health Trax, a leading name in nutritional supplements, has announced the launch of a new line of Vitamin D3 products made with Vitashine, a proprietary raw material that is the only source of Vitamin D3 known to be produced using absolutely no animal products. A recent agreement between Global Health Trax, Inc., it’s wholly owned subsidiary Health Specialties Manufacturing, Inc. and ESB Developments Ltd., the European source of Vitashine, makes Global Health Trax the only company to offer 100% vegan Vitamin D3 products in North America and select international markets.

As reported last week in the American Journal of Cardiology, a University of Kansas analysis suggests that Vitamin D supplements may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and mortality itself. Research showed that supplements made the greatest impact on those with a pre-existing Vitamin D deficiency.

“As leaders in the nutritional supplement field, we know that Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to a variety of health problems, ” says Jim Rex, President and CEO of GHT (www.ghthealth.com), based in Vista, Calif. “The more we hear, the more we know just how beneficial a product like our Plant Based Vitamin D3 may well be. ”

GHT launched its Plant Based Vitamin D3, the only 100-per-cent plant-based Vitamin D3 product on the North American market, in early March, thanks to an agreement with ESB Developments Ltd. of Nottingham, England. GHT’s Plant Based Vitamin D3 is made with Vitashine, the world’s only known source of Vitamin D3 manufactured without animal products.

The University of Kansas study examined how levels of Vitamin D and supplementation may influence risk of disease and mortality, using 10,899 test subjects with an average age of 58. In all, 70 per cent of the people in the study were Vitamin D deficient; researchers led by Dr. James Vacek found that deficiency was accompanied by higher rates of diabetes and cardiovascular-related diseases, including coronary artery disease and hypertension.

The risk of overall mortality was 164 per cent higher in those with Vitamin D deficiency; Vitamin D supplements, on the other hand, were associated with a 61-per-cent higher rate of survival.

“Our study suggests a significant association (between) Vitamin D supplement use and improved survival in deficient subjects, ” reads the study, “supporting the potential benefit of this intervention. ”

A lack of Vitamin D, known as the “sunshine vitamin, “ can diminish bone density and weaken the body’s immune system. Vitamin D deficiency in adults may also lead to osteoporosis, common cancers, and autoimmune and infectious diseases, while evidence suggests Vitamin D may reduce the risk of several types of cancer.

The two primary forms of Vitamin D are Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Scientific studies have concluded that Vitamin D3 is far more potent and efficient than Vitamin D2, but Vitamin D3 has traditionally been produced by extracting lanolin from sheep’s wool — a practice that may negatively impact the natural state of the animals, and runs afoul of some consumer ethics. Plant Based Vitamin D3 is sourced from an edible form of lichen, and represents a true breakthrough in the nutritional supplement field.

GHT’s Plant Based Vitamin D3 product line is available for immediate shipment in both spray and capsule form. The 400-IU (International Unit) flavorless spray for adults, and 200-IU fruit-flavored spray for kids, can be applied on food or directly into the mouth. Capsules are available in a 60-count bottle of 5,000-IU softgels, while 60-count bottles of 1,000-IU softgels will be available within 60 days. Both formats provide a full two-month supply of naturally sourced Vitamin D3. GHT is also making these products available to customers as a private-label offering through its wholly owned subsidiary, Health Specialties Manufacturing Inc.

The University of Kansas study may influence health guidelines governing recommended daily allowances, according to the researchers, who suggest “appropriate” daily supplement doses of at least 1,000 IU.
